How fragile we are

I dreamt you no longer wanted me

That you had cast me to the side

I dreamt your heart had turned away

And left me out to dry.

You fled without a word

Not so much as a trace

You would not bother to hear it

Nor look upon my face.

There was no explanation

No understanding to be found

You made it so I never could

Hear another of your sound.

And so I could do nothing

Saved none of what we were

Your escape had been far too complete

To that did I surrender.

But when I at last awoke

Affirmed our bond intact

I sighed and laid back down to rest

And hope that remained in fact.
